This Can Happen

A wise person on the streets will find a way to stay out of trouble, but sometimes trouble comes looking for them, and responding correctly can be tricky.

When a person invades your space, you must defend that space.  If you don’t, others will think you weak and will all begin to take advantage of you.  But, in making a stand you might also bring about an altercation.

Every morning I go to the near by McDonalds, as many other homeless people do.  It’s a place to wake up, if nothing else.   One particular homeless woman who has some mental health issues also hangs out at this McDonalds, and lately she’s become fairly obnoxious, and in the past few days has been encroaching on my space, to the point of messing with my belongings.

I told her on previous occasions to leave my stuff alone, but it obviously didn’t sink in.  So, today when she started up again, I raised my voice.  This got the manager’s attention.  When I explained what happened to the manager, she told this woman to go sit somewhere away from me.   And she didn’t like hearing that.

A few minutes later, this homeless woman said that she was going to have someone teach me a lesson.   More than likely, it’s an idle threat, but I have seen that kind of thing happen in the past, where a homeless person pays someone, or a couple people, to beat up another.  And you’d be surprised how little it takes to get a crackhead to commit a crime in exchange for a cash payment.

Well, if anything is to happen, it will probably happen tonight.  If I don’t leave a message here in the morning, you’ll know what happened.
